How to Fix Gaps in Teeth

People no longer view gaps in teeth like in the past.  It is quite surprising that some celebrities and everyday people view gaps in teeth as stylish.  However, plenty of people do not like the look of gapped teeth.

If people do not seek treatment for the gaps, they will remain an eyesore for the rest of the patient's life.

Here is a look at the different ways in which oral health professionals repair gaps in teeth.

Dental treatments for gaps in teeth

Invisalign® to Repair Gaps in Teeth

Invisalign® is becoming one of the most popular ways to fix gaps in teeth.  Invisalign® is a translucent oral health device that gradually moves teeth into the proper spaces.  In general, Invisalign® tends to be effective in cases where the gap is not extremely wide.

While traditional braces are also available as a potential solution, some patients tend to shy away from this option since it is not as visually-appealing as Invisalign®.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a replacement tooth that professionals position in the gap.  Dental implants are especially effective when the gap between the teeth is particularly wide.  The titanium rod or screw serves as the replacement tooth. Professionals insert the implant directly into the jaw bone in order for it to establish a firm connection through a process known as osseointegration.

Dental implants have an incredibly high success rate.  They fill the gaps in the mouth and provide long-lasting benefits.  However, dental implants tend to be more expensive than other solutions.

Crowns and Veneers

Veneers and crowns are quite similar to one another.  They basically serve the same purpose in the mouth. However, professionals merely bond veneers to the front portion of the tooth while the crown's porcelain shell covers the majority of the tooth.  As a result, crowns tend to be more effective. However, both of these options take longer and cost more money than dental bonding.

Teeth Gap Bands

The application of the product, Teeth Gap Bands, around the tooth gap in question has the potential to narrow the gap over time. Patients apply this product prior to going to sleep for the night.  Some patients report success after using these bands across several nights. Larger gaps might require upwards of six months to narrow. However, these bands will not work if the tooth is not relatively straight.  Be sure to obtain approval from your dentist before using such bands.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is one of the fastest ways to fix gaps in teeth.  Dental bonding requires the application of resin directly to the teeth.  Once a few hours pass, the resin will dry and the teeth will look better.  Dental bonding helps with everything from gaps in the teeth to chipped teeth and broken teeth.

Dentures for Gaps in Teeth

Dentures are a last resort for gaps in teeth.  This is a removable replacement option for several lost teeth.  Partial and complete dentures are available for patients who have several gaps or especially wide gaps.  For the most part, dentures are only used if the patient's overarching health or mouth health is in jeopardy.
