What Does a Smile Makeover Do?

What Does a Smile Makeover Do?

A smile makeover is a customized treatment plan for cosmetic dentistry patients that includes one or more cosmetic dental procedures to create a beautiful, healthy-looking smile. This can take more than one visit to complete because of the many different treatments that can be combined to achieve the look you want. That’s why it’s important to plan a consultation with your doctor to talk about your options for a smile makeover. Smile makeovers can include numerous treatments.

At ATI Dental Care, we can recommend the right set of treatments for you based on your goals and preferences, but we will always take the time to explain each option thoroughly so you can make an informed decision about your smile care.

Here are the common smile makeover treatment options:

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over a tooth that has been damaged, cracked, or weakened by decay. It can be used for cosmetic reasons to improve the appearance of the tooth, but it can also be used to protect the tooth from further damage by placing a restoration over the biting surface of the tooth. A crown can also restore function to a tooth that has a large filling and is not able to chew properly.

The process of placing a crown can take two to three visits to complete. The first visit will involve preparing the tooth and taking an impression of the area. We will place a temporary crown on the tooth to protect it until the permanent crown is ready. Once the permanent crown arrives in two to three weeks, we will check the fit and color of the restoration and place the crown permanently on the tooth. You will leave our office with your new smile!

Porcelain Veneers

A smile makeover can consist of anything from simple teeth whitening to a full set of porcelain veneers, depending on the patient’s needs and preferences. Porcelain veneers are one of the most popular types of cosmetic dentistry because they can address a wide variety of aesthetic concerns in one treatment.

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic material that are bonded to the fronts of a patient’s teeth with dental-grade resin cement. These shells can be shaped to mask any imperfections on the teeth and can even be colored to blend seamlessly with the patient’s natural tooth color. Patients can also elect to receive veneers on a single tooth or on all of the visible front teeth at once.

Tooth Bonding

Tooth bonding is a cosmetic procedure that can fix minor flaws in your teeth, such as cracks or discolorations. The procedure is simple and fast: our dentist will apply a tooth-colored resin to the surface of your tooth and then harden it in place using a curing light. With proper care, tooth bonding can last for up to a decade. The bonding material can be color-matched to the rest of your teeth so that it blends in with your smile seamlessly. Often, patients need multiple teeth bonded together to achieve a more even smile. Our dentist will use a special sculpting tool to mold the bonding material onto the surface of the teeth, so it looks natural. Once the teeth are bonded, you can brush and floss them like normal.
